OR YES, AND LASTLY Karl-James was not thrown out of the IFA for bad archaeological practice, infact nobody has ever questioned his competence. This is all a deliberate attempt to crucify an up and coming Liberal politician and archaeologist. The IFA now stands for, 'WE WILL KEEP CORRUPT ARCHAEOLOGISTS, AND NEVER EXPEL THEM AS MEMBERS, INFACT THE IFA ENCOURAGES BAD PRACTICE ON PROJECTS, HOW MANY OF ITS MEMBERS HAS IT EVER EXPELLED FOR BAD ARCHAEOLOGICAL PRACTICE?' After complaint after complaint from the public and other ifa members. I know in 2005/6 none were expelled, and through its history less than two spring to mind ever have. When we all know, and have read on this forum that there is so much mal - archaeological practice.

Its about time there was a body that was not run by communists, and for the better good of archaeology.

ps... the Liberal party that Karl is in... got a whopping 1.3% of the vote in the Vale of Glamorgan.. and is in no way related to the actual Liberal party...

First... its Connolly - not Connelly
Second - I would certainly not describe myself as a radical left winger (more of a liberal anarchist )
Third - If you want to have me expelled from the IFA then you can quite properly put a case to them and ask for me to be investigated.. it may be an alien concept to you, but this is called democratic process.

The reason I put myself forward to join the IFA (I went through the full process of application and was accepted) was to show support for an organisation that I may not agree with 100% of the time, but saw as the only group that could bring commercial archaeology into the 21st century and provide much needed standards to benchmark our 'profession' . The views of the IFA membership are as varied as the UK itself - and I would never describe it as lefty... just like I would find it hard to describe the Liberal party that you speak of as ...er...liberal.... I am right in thinking that it is a Judean Peoples Front Liberal Party, that split off and achieved a whopping 1.3% election success in the Vale of Glamorgan.

You have now openly and publically stated you will break employment law... this would be worrying if you ever had to employ someone... however I would find it rather odd, if Archaeology Cymru would ever be in that position... and that any real archaeologist would ever go to work for you, if by some miracle you were able to advertise these ilegal and bigoted views.

But you state you are the person who employs people for Archaeology Cymru. shurely shome mishtake.

You atitude represents the worst in discrimination, bigitory and general ignorance that I have seen for a long time....

this highlights a need... a real and palpable need..... for a robust, universal, policed and enforced system (for example the RAO system) that ensures that companies that practice archaeology commercially are registered and run by archaeologists - who have gained that title through a chartered status. At the moment too many people who are clearly not worthy of the title archaeologist are able to use it with impunity.

If it was not for your frankly offensive and illegal views... this would be funny... sadly it is not... it is deeply shaming for UK archaeology.

Complaint
A complaint was received from a company that had received an answer-machine message requesting an advisor to contact the caller with some information. A premium rate number had been left as the contact number. Another complaint from another company was subsequently received with the caller claiming to be an archaeologist seeking specialist information.

The following breaches of the ICSTIS Code of Practice (Tenth Edition, Amended July 2005) were raised:

Prior permission (Paragraph 3.3.1): Archaeology Cymru Ltd did not have the required prior permission to operate a live service.

Misleading (Paragraph 4.3.1a): Recipients of the telephone calls would have been likely to call the contact number given as the fact that it was a premium rate number was not made clear.

Pricing information (Paragraph 4.4.1): The promotional telephone calls did not give pricing information.

Contact details (Paragraph 4.5): The promotional telephone calls did not give contact details for the service provider.

Further information (Paragraph 7.2.3): To assist the investigation, the service provider was asked to provide further information about the service and its promotion, including an explanation of the purpose of the service, details of where they had obtained the complainants? contact details and information about the nature of their business. Call revenue statistics were also requested.

Due to the potentially serious consumer harm posed by the service, ICSTIS used its Emergency Procedure to bar access to the service with immediate effect.

Archaeology Cymru Ltd did not respond to the breaches raised and failed to provide the requested information.

Decision
The Committee upheld breaches of paragraphs 3.3.1, 4.3.1a, 4.4.1, 4.5 and 7.2.3 of the ICSTIS Code of Practice (Tenth Edition, Amended July 2005).

Archaeology Cymru Ltd were fined £1,000 and issued with a formal reprimand. In addition, access to the service was barred for six months.

I think you might be right. There is no personal information on voice of reason's profile. Googling his name only brings up this page. In fact, googling his surname alone brings up nothing, so not only is Dr Mike not called Cairns-Baincroft, but it seems there is a good chance that no-one else in the developed world is either.

Also consider this, forensic psychologists: KJLs only qualification is a PgDip, yet his sidekick is a PhD; KJL has made himself a double-barrel name by including his middle name/double forename, while his alleged alter-ego has a genuine double-barrel.

However, all the good Doctor has to do is tell us which university awarded his PhD and of course a copy of his PhD will be deposited at this university for anyone to check.

Just been comparing and contrasting this with KJL earlier posts in the Britarch archive and the style is identical.:face-huh:

What are the chances, I wonder, of one archaeological unit employig TWO people who have identical forum posting style's AND rather reactionary viewpoints?

Don't forget the 3rd man - the mysterious Mr Jones! He may not be a Dr, but he's a respectable archaeologist, a member of the IFA no less! Or he was until this disgraceful incident. I'm sure now many will follow Mr Jones' clear headed lead and renounce their memberships (within the next two weeks). So that's at least two heavyweight supporters for KJL.

Does / did Archaeology Cymru really exist? Have any local authority planning departments any reports by them? Is the whole thing not some elaborate joke? How can one person hang themselves so thoroughly having been given so little rope? The mind boggles.

If this is real, we really do need a chartered institute for the profession.
