See that the third of the pipeline companies is advertising for staff - but with no subsistance payments! For jobs away from home its expensive to live in two places and with the subs from the other companies totaling £50 a week tax free (5 day week/ 60 6 day week)it seems that this package is quite substantially less than on other elements of what is essentially the same job.
Maybe its about time that there was a move towards the standardisation of subs throughout the industry as in a job as poorly paid as this it makes a huge difference

"free accommodation, transport to and from site"
To play devils advocate.. if you are in free accomodation you are paying the same as if you are at home... you can shop and cook - as opposed to B&B type acomodation where subsistance is esential as you are 'forced' to eat out.

However.....
When one has to wait a month before being paid one weeks wage when one has signed up to one months contract? Not only that, I know of supervisers that have had to put 200 squid of their own money into the firms hire van before claiming it back.... taking the urine a bit isnt it?When I sign a contract of employment, I dont sign to say that I`m willing to invest in my employers company.

Not nessecarily - as you cant carry much stuff away with you you always end up spending loads to get in all the essentials that you never think of like cooking oil, salt so to bring yourself up to the normal level you have to buy lots of things at the same time that you dont usually do. And the upkeep on other houses often has to be kept up - and often if you normally share the cost of shopping for two lots of one is much more expensive than sharing a food shop.
And in the building industry its standard to be given an allowence for working away from home so why shouldnt we be afforded the same consideration?
And on the same job how come the other two companies can pay subs but not this one? Maybe someones making a bit more profit off the backs of its diggers? And judging by some of the accom it has offered you wouldnt want to cook or eat in the accom!!!

The other thing to take into consideration is the self-responsibility. If people don't apply for jobs (and I certainly am not suggesting this for this particular one) then the wages go up.. after all.. a certain degree of everyone being responsible is needed. As long as people apply for jobs then the wages/conditions will remian the same.

Well I for one am not going to be appling for the recentley advertised job as "
Archaeolgical Consultant" as the money being offered for a Consultant seems to have gone down the pan, maybe they offer a great subsistance package
Ps, the Office hasn't be the same without you Trowelfodder

Actually you wil find that the wages offered are pretty bleedin good... (hence the BAJR approved... ) The grades looked for represent the level of ability... the wage offered is shall we say.. a darn site more.. and I mean more...
)
Nuff said.
The Grades represent the minimum requirements for a persons ability ... and a minimum pay for that level of responsibility... People can pay more... and this is a case in point.

I presume that all three units are budgeting for subsistence but only two are paying it to their staff...?
Got to agree with Trowelfodder with the consistency of the construction industry.
As for £200 quid of your own money injected into a project, I have to say that a drop in the ocean compared to some of my expenses claims. I have heard of POs putting in about a grand on their credit cards!
