dig deep unit - you might get a grant (3 wishes)

Quote:dig deep unit - you might get a grant (3 wishes)That did make me chuckle... nice one :face-approve: Seriously though. Before this gets into a bash the CBA / defend the CBA thread, which will be counter-productive, to return to the main thrust of this. I do agree with P Pentice that a cut to the CBA is a cut to archaeology. However, what are the CBA doing to be inclusive? I was at a conference a couple of weeks back, and my ire was raised when the IfA CBA Academics etc all decided to work together to protect funding and to move more into community projects because - and I quote - there is HLF money to be tapped into. Now, call me a cynic, but thats not why you do something primarily... and certainly looks bad if it is because other funds have dried up... Like everything there has to be changes, the CBA is a grand organisation, but times have changed, and sadly, just being a grand organisation does not cut it anymore when there are cuts to be made. If they can list the objectives, explain the importance, seek to be part of a whole rather than the whole. They can be part of teh future... indeed should be... but it must be deserved. :face-huh: Remember this is not just about the CBA, it is about the Digger in the field, the staff in the office, the jobs at county and National level. Lets keep it concerted, and focused on all of us.

well if we think we can do better ....... and i'm sure we can, we have to get off our proverbials and do something before we get stitched-up again!

How about a Christmas club but one only for field archaeologists, we dodge towergits go straight to Aviva negotiate a public and professional indemnity insurance rate for field archaeologists and then use a HLF grant scam to pay for the members premiums or give a substantial discount. We then refuse to dig with anybody who has not got our insurance and force them to join at a competitive price (plus extra for our Christmas club). Obviously if they have ever previously been a member of cba or ifeey they will need re education. I have 240v electric supply handy which I can supply at competitive market rates.

which only goes to prove that if you dig down deep enough your head is always in the sand

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.
