I'm sure there was an old thread on this, but I see the IfA site announced yesterday the merger with the AAIS. What I find most peculiar about this is that, as far as I am aware, the IfA membership was never asked about it. Did I miss a memo? Surely something of this size would have gone through more consultation?

but then what people draw things anymore anyway- we have all gone digital and besides its not as though they were doing anything field archaeological.-bunch of parasites best place for them with the no point ifa

That's the point, one side of the equation didn't get a vote.
I believe the new members will have to pay the full fees eventually.
Any useful contributions, or is everyone on holiday at present?

Initially, I was against the merger, as were the AAI&S members I spoke to.
However, with much thinking and soul searching it appeared from the AAI&S point of view to be the only way to move forward.
As to the IFA consulting it's own members - I'm surprised it didn't happen, especially given the large number of the new influx of specialists.
Personally, if I were still in the IFA (I resigned over 20 years ago in protest at their closing of ranks around a founding father following a legitimate complaint - not from me i should add) I would be a bit miffed.
As for my comments directed at Unitof1....tired of his constant bitching from on high on topics he clearly has no clue about....

I got the impression it essentially happened because the AAIS committe basically couldn't be bothered any more, which makes it all the more worrying that the IfA's members weren't consulted.
I fear it is damaging to both organisations - except that the former AAIS members don't have to worry about that now because it doesn't exist anymore.
I wouldn't bother poking Unit, he probably hasn't had his midday nap yet and is obviously feeling a bit grumpy.
