great post! love your passion!
Q's 4 ALGO = fair enough, if thats what U and PP are on about....i would like to know what they think RE: DraftNPP- i certainly have not been Kicking anybody...i support ALGO...
Thus, i refer you dear sir, to the :face-topic: , and ask what it is you wanted to say? (have you been in my bedroom
?)
I don't see much hope for a solution when people are so ready to start with the 'name-calling' and such like - is that productive or a good reflection on a profession desperate to be taken seriously? ... (double non-smiley face, tsk tsk)
You will doubtless pontificate upon 'inclusivity' ' diversity' 'education' ' a social role/justification' for archaeology
when it suites you (to the media, to the public, to the client, to the Legislation Axe-men)...but you fight with each other like niny-whingers....not a great start - and frankly,
entirely unconvincing.
If we are going to make any headway, in protecting at
least our as yet undamaged archaeology, if not save a proffesion which is at times entirley daft, then we must unite with other people who share Heritage Protection as a goal....that might include eg: "bedroom anarchists", (whatever they are), or even miserable middle-age+ misanthropes, who-think-they-know/done-it-all
(no stirry stick required)
If an archaeologist can
not try to see 'The Bigger Picture' then they are merely a mud-tickler or paper-pisser, or even a mechanical-smiley Yuppi-zoid, ... and
no archaeologist at alll !
What part of the contemporary socio-political context of DraftNPP is relevant? The future of the economy, no? The free hand to banks and corporations, no? The polices of greed and corruption in government, no? whether the public have bigger concerns, no? whether we will have a country worth living in, never mind 'doing archaeology'....?
If we can not see past the surface to the wider, deeper, and
longer patterns at work in our own lives, how can we ever say/do anything meaningful in regard of our Ancestors + their remains.
If we can not 'debate reality like adults'
even with each other, how on earth do we profess to be educators, or a profession with a social role, let alone a Science (bru-hoo ha Ha HA!!splutter/choke)?
If we cant see what's going on 'out there', or understand how large-scale societal structures influence individual lives, or see how 'archaeology' fits into the bigger picture, then assuredly we will get what we deserve...ie:
- Lip-service field work,
- erosion of standards and research,
- weak restraints on short-sighted/damaging commercial developments and their associated profits
- A laughable profession dominated by Lackeys-to-Money, slowing sucking the soul and joy from the Discipline and those unfortunate enough to
actually practice The Real Thing...
But Vulpz has been in my bedroom (i know it, i found the stains..tsk,tsk), and knows I'll be doing 'Sweet F.A' about it....so its over to you.
