yup afraid so , good story but once you have read a few more adult books you come to realise it is not particularly well written :face-stir:

What was the lucky first wage packet like Landescapist. All you expected or more? What have they got you doing for Christmas?.
To bring in the transferable skills subject thermals can be worn whilst on site and whennot employed like over Christmas but from a self-employed point of view it probably means that you would have to proportion the cost of the thermals between legitimate business expense for tax purposes and personal use.

Rather than re-hashing all the winter-digging-gear stuff couldn't BAJR resurrect all the stuff that was posted last December, just the useful stuff mind. Seem to recall lengthy discussion of thermals, gloves, freezer-boots, hand-cream, bargains from the Army-and-Navy, rubberwear, pictures of Norwegian Arctic digging gear etc. Maybe do a seperate page with the best tips on, rather than making this an annual event?

Not all "not particularly well-written" books are children's books. Porn books don't tend to be literary masterpieces, as far as I'm aware. I still wouldn't call them children's books... Besides, you can be a big fan of Conrad, Woolf, Lawrence and the others and still love your Tolkien. IMO, it has nothing to do with how many "adult" books you've read/studied/analysed. You can appreciate a book for what it has to offer, and a good story is more than what most books can boast. (And no, I'm not a Tolkien fan, I don't roleplay and I don't wish I was an Elf. I just find misplaced condescension towards books/films etc. annoying. Unless it has to do with Twilight, in which case it can't be misplaced anyway).

Humm looks like I should not have used the word adult! Perhaps better written would have been the expression to use. I love Tolkien and the man was brilliant but he is not the best or even a particularly good writer but that is a personal opinion and in no way was meant as condescension. Oh and many children's books are extremely well written (but not Harry Potter!).
But this is all way off topic and we can agree to differ
Jane Austen is of course the ultimate writer and I will personally disembowel any one who disagrees

Have you considered union membership? It's not a bad idea to have your arse covered!
And as for tips - one that will always serve you well - do not assume that builders onsite are sexist, stupid or will hate you unless you find over time that they are. Have a chat with them, bit of banter goes a long way and you can never underestimate how much easier they can make your life if you get on with them. (And as a general rule they are a wicked bunch of lads (and occ ladies) and it never hurts to have a laugh)
