As some of you may be aware RPBM have been bought by Towergate Partnership. I have just received a renewal invitation from Towergate which is more than £60 over what I was paying with RPBM for the same thing. What companies are other people using?

RPBM and towergate are brokerages not insurance companies. Try a different brokerage.
What are you trying to insure?

I am due to renew my public/employers liability policies. I have only tried the web version so far and archaeologist does not appear as a drop down option but Norwich Union look promising - cheaper than my previous year with RPBM. I will need to try them in person to see if the word 'archaeologist' muddies the water.

[?] scratch my last entry! On telephoning Norwich Union I was informed that we are not a 'standardised' occupation and they cannot provide insurance. They have suggested another company who I have contacted. I will let you know if I fare any better there.

The alternative broker was able to offer me insurance but they could not match Towergate by quite a margin.
I found Towergate very helpful - the member of staff I dealt with had previously worked for RPBM and had a good understanding of the profession.
In conclusion it may be hard to find an alternative and even if you do the feedback I got from their competitors was that Towergates rates were very reasonable. It would be interesting to hear if anyone else has tried an alternative.

I think thats the thing... they are the only ones brave (or daft) enough to take a risk with such a risky thing as the unknown...
How much archaeology is there? Dunno.... tell you once I have found it...
