as I remember symbols was a loud bang, triangles more of a tingle, circles conspiricy and pentangles seemed to involve naked virgins but then I might be square and into single indexes

The most common versions I have seen are: number in a circle = context number, number in or following a triangle = small finds number, number following an asterisk or pentangle = sample number.

Is this one of those "standards" that depends on who's doing it?

A always went for a sample number in a diamond <34> small find was a triangle (damn... cant do this) and context was a square [ 1039 ] a circle was another way of doing a context number (1039) a sample number could also have a # so #102 but never seen a pentangle before.
as pdurdin says. a standard that is only standard on teh site you are on.

usually
[001] = cut
(001) = Fill
what i was always taught! Almost every site i've been on has done this. The only exception was in Ireland where they used what i was alwasy taught was a structure symbol, [ ^ ] =sqaure brackets with what i can only assume is meant to be a wee roof on top, instead of the usual []=cut.
I would imagine pentangle was a joke.......but you really never know :0

In my experience, it depends...............
surely a pentangle would refer to an artefact charged with power............or maybe the insanity points lost after researching it?
All hail Cthulu!
