Most contractors require that every person on site has a CSCS card, which is probably why most Archaeology companies won't use MD ing volunteers.
Thanks Mike. As luck would have it, I'm meeting a farmer tomo to discuss a possible permission. It was arranged through a mutual friend. Fingers crossed.
Re CSCS card. Oh I see. I didn't know that. Mind you, I do happen to have my Construction Skills Certification Scheme card because I need it for work. I know 4 fellow detectorists through work (we all do the same/similar job) so, funnily enough, I'm yet to meet a detectorist who
doesn't have a CSCS card!

as the original question was so deridably ill-conceived, i thought i would frame my own:
archaeologists: how many significant stratified metallic finds do you find on rural (field) sites on average per year?
metal detectorists: how many finds do you report per year?

9 PAS finds last year but then I maybe spend 2 full days detecting worth of time a month which isn't that much. Furthermore the permissions I have generally have 1800ish and above stuff on. 5 of my PAS finds came from going out with a friend on their permission for like 4 days so a much higher return rate.

Look in the regional research framework documents...........that is a starter, then use professional and academic experience for all those interesting side-research opportunities.
Beyond the scope of the general general public I fear...........though not of the not so general general public.
