What has EH ever done for us?

In light of the massive changes and the throw away question from Jack on another thread What do you think EH has done for us. Me thinks quite a lot possibly more than the IFA.

Yup gave me a job more than once and grants to organisations who could then employ me. And as Seedy Girl says those fab guidelines that cover more or less everything.

Gave me quite a few jobs, either directly (I miss the CEU!) or more recently as a client, monitoring them putting up their own signs on their own sites has always been a nice day out (although have always been a bit mystified why they subcontract...). And of course going back a little further they (or DoE or MoW) did finance most of the excavations on the circuit...never understood why they thought kitting out their diggers in (briefly) white T-shirts was a good idea though...

I still have my EH issue black balaclava (and socks) The T shirt was grey with appropriate logo

Black balaclava?? That's a side of EH I never knew existed! Have they been topping up the funds with the odd bank job? :0

Ninja Archaeologist that's me. Nahh you try working 50ft from a cliff edge over looking the north sea in January without full thermals fleece, waterproof jacket, wooly socks, balaclava and fingerless mitts (all provided by EH). Had to give the fleece and water proofs back, lost the mitts. Horizontal sleet was the easy bit. EH excavations are done by the book and the health and safety was spot on.

Ah, Whitby. Fond memories of inspecting a major cliff collapse with Buzz, only to realise that the ground was cracking behind us...as you say, spot-on health and safety!

If EH didn't exist, what would you envisage in its place? Another quango by another name!!

If IfA didn't exist, what would professional archaeologists have to moan about? Another institute, by another name!!
