hosty admit it you are basically a forestalling badger
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Badger_(occupation). maybe bajr should consider a duty free zone and obviously a tax free haven. The scots invented paper money
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Law_(economist) after all and before dot matrix printers. It all seems to be about who gets the right to print money, well its about time we got to print our own. Its a democratic world. I dont remember voting to not print our own money. Everybody should print their own money. Gilds in the past used to produce their own tokens. My latest scanner is refusing to scan ten pound notes. Maybe you could get hold of some real scanners that could scan pound notes print some off and sell them south of the boarder.

Unlikely....when Ireland separated from the UK there was never a need to show a passport when travelling between North and South or between the Republic and the UK.....similarly the Scandinavian nations had passport free to-ing and fro-ing long before the EU came along.....can't see why something similar couldn't operate between a liberated Scotland and the rump of the UK....

"liberated"- the real scots asked to join England or was it begged. Now any contract/treaty with Scotland is almost worthless as half of them obviously don't believe in them.

not sure that we want the Chevy Chase repeated although in its time it was probably the foremost Ballard that held the union together

Marc - the answer to your question is NO - an independent Scottish Government would have to revisit all of these treaties and decide whether to sign up or not.
Beamo
Am no expert, but also wont members of EU, NATO etc have a say in whether to let an independent Scotland in? I doubt Spain will want them in due to their own 'problems' with Basque and Catalonia.
Can Scotland afford to be outside the EU?
Part of me wants Scotland to be independant, but part of me hopes they vote no for their own sake!

I don't see there is a problem with NATO......Ireland and Swedes are both outside NATO and seem to get on fine....similarly Norway and Iceland are not in the EU but have separately negotiated trade deals.....it would be mainly to the benefit of the Rump UK to ensure Scotland stayed in both alliances (not least cos of the siting of UK nuclear facilities vis a vis NATO and fishing and hydrocarbon issues vis a vis EU).....

Stick it between the rebuilt Hadrian's Wall and the vallum? Will be able to pop in en route to the supermarket :face-approve:
Actually, could we rebuild the wall about 300m north? Not a cunning English land-grab, just that otherwise, unless I move, I'd have to become Scottish :face-crying:

Then the West Lothian question goes away - it's not rocket science!

my own view is that without a critical mass you will not get a good idea. I think that getting Scots Welsh Irish voting on English matters only made the results stronger- that's the point of England being in the union. The west Lothian question isn't a problem its a benefit. Cameroon created the referendum for a restricted 5 million to get rid of the socialists and it backfired a bit (I think that he wanted it either way- yes or no), and it took the heat off a his non-existent nonsense euro referendum. He is not as stupid as his banker class suggests. As for devolution, did the majority No vote really vote for more devolution?--The missing third option from the vote.
