"This does not mean that I do not think that others employed in the same role as me are not underpaid and in no way denies me the right to speak out against exploitation." What you are seeing is not only exploitation but undercutting your livelyhood. I think that exploitation is a matter for the state and undercutting would be a matter for the CIFA. As Doug has said maybe try reporting them to BAJR.

Well I was hoping that BAJR read its own forum and maybe might take my rant as a report. After all the Thread is titled 'Sort It Out'.

i am pretty sure that most employers will be as annoyed as you are if somebody is not playing by the rules but proof is required. complaints are taken seriously so stand up and be counted

Bear in mind the RAO is doing nothing illegal.
That said I have sent a formal complaint. There seems no way to make these anonymously so there goes my anonymity.

I will, although I am not expecting much, certainly no strong statement of condemnation will be forthcoming.

you should expect an investigation and a decision from the ro committee if there is a case to answer and that will depend on the evidence submitted and the answer given to the enquiry. if it is supported by multiple statements from employees that demonstrate the ro is playing fast and loose you should expect the ro to be asked to put its house in order or be removed from the register.

I understand how the process works.
As far as I can tell they have broken no CIfA Code of Conduct or any law so really there will be no case to answer and CIfA will carry on as before and exploitation, whatever form it takes, will continue because really I do not believe that CIfA has any real power to influence employment conditions or the balls to stand up against the RAO's on employment issues. This will just end being yet another demonstration that this is true and I will regret sticking my head above the parapet.

Sorry I came to this late...there could be an issue here if the deduction of an accommodation charge takes the wage below National Minimum Wage....... see this link
https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-accommodation On the following page there is a calculator for estimating whether the accommodation charge is legal (providing it still guarantees the minimum wage...

Bearing in mind that the £85 also includes travel I think the RAO has got the deduction exactly so that they pay the minumum wage. This makes me feel no less disgusted by the practice.
