I know what you mean Bob, I've just bought my first home in the last few months because I could suddenly afford it. I think that if the government wants to stimulate supply, they need to put more effort into producing homes that people actually want to live in. New builds are rubbish: for the same price as my Edwardian terrace I could have got a five sixths scale model new build flat made of plasterboard and exorbitant serivce charges.
slightly ranty, but there you go.
People are still buying, it just that sellers are unwilling to drop their prices becasue they thought their house was some kind of magic money machine....

well given that we only finally paid off Lend-lease from WW2 a few years ago, there's nothing unusual in that....

Oooh - does that mean we finally own those old four-stack destroyers at last? Reminds me of when I finally paid off my car loan - the car fell to pieces three months later.

Well let's just hope this creates some archaeological jobs to whatever degree ....it's pretty grim everywhere at the moment so any positivity is much needed....

Road schemes? I wonder if this means Lincoln will get its long overdue eastern by-pass? or the new east coast motorway?:face-huh:

...or for that matter, the Heathrow third runway (ducks behind parapet).
Give me a four-stack destroyer any time!

I doubt a measly ?2bn would be enough to fund the architects of the third runway to have fresh cravats to the end of the project. The new rail link that goes with the expanded Heathrow is projected to cost ?4.5 - 6bn alone. :face-confused:

Well, I believe the Preferred Route of the Lincoln Eastern Bypass was announced last October, and work is currently underway on Environmental Impact Assessment leading to Planning Application. So, that project was already in progress, irrespective of the recession. Don't know the programmed date of construction, though.
