I had an idea for a PhD once which focused on the fact that war disturbs archaeological deposits and large bombs will affect previously unknown archaeological deposits, which will then appear dispersed on geophysics results.
my solution was to propose that I survey numerous monument types on Salisbury plain and then hit them hard with various and measured ordnance and then re survey them. Then by knowing the type of shell that fell on the archaeology you could calibrate the machines to tell what it was before it was hit.
Couldn?t generate much interest however
In terms of archaeology transport, their was a hind gunship for sale in Bicester recently!! Why and how it was in Bicester I have no idea but it was all working but out of maintenance hours so would have needed a complete overhaul to get a CAA licence. Would have been cool for monitoring visits.
ten years on and still no bottom
