This was the point of my question really, is it worth trying to establish common titles - so that 'supervisor' becomes a widely understood term that does not mean 'excavation director'!

Clearly different titles also have different levels of responsibility. Field Officers in a smaller unit will have a higher level of autonomy than Project Officers in a large unit, and there will be other nuances.

I wonder if it is worth trying to establish/formalise job titles and link them to the IFA pay scales discussed elsewhere on this forum?
