Obviously! But that hasn't deterred people from attempting to look at pay and conditions across the board. Arguably this is an easier task.

The only circumstance I can think of where this statement is relevant is in large multi-disciplinary consultancies (where, in any case, an archaeologist is likely to have the title 'Archaeologist'). Most other employers of archaeologists are either local authorities (which already have a wide range of different job titles for different professions at the same level - eg. 'senior engineer', 'senior archaeologist' etc.) or private archaeological contracting firms, in which case your point is irrelevant.
