My sister is a primary school teacher, and she asked me to give her 10 year olds a 'What is Archaeology' talk about 2 months ago. I gave a little this is what we do, where we do it, how we do it. Then, we went around the classroom, thirty odd kids asking mostly fairly bog-standard questions, dinosaurs, gold, been on telly, any skellies, what do you do with all the stuff, most valuable find, who were the Celts, did the Vikings wear horned helmets, all that sort of stuff. I had been talking about Tara, (you know the huge complex older than the Pyramids that our dearest govt is trying to drive a motorway through, oh yeah I got questions about that too, kiddies are a lot more clued in nowadays than I was!). Anyway, one kid decided to bring me up on a point about Tara, he said the myths and stories said there was a big banqueting hall at Tara, and why did I not agree, and how come archaeologists don't believe in history! I thought that was quite good!
