One man says: Lots of tenders that don't involve a consultant at all are sent out on the basis of a curator's brief alone, and that usually gives even less information than is listed above.
But the difference is that we can ask for the necessary information from the direct client and they will generally try and provide as much as they can. The attitude I have encountered from the consultants is that there is no way they can frankly be a**ed and you are just seen as being awkward by asking for it. I cannot see how the consultant can justify not sending out all relevant information in the first place, as they (allegedly) know what is needed. To do otherwise seems to me to be acting against the client's interests in not getting 'informed' quotes from potential contractors. Though some of the twelve-year olds, who have never seen mud let alone know to spell it, and who seem to be tasked by consultancy firms with obtaining quotes probably can't see why knowing anything practical about the site is at all relevant.
