Have used these for planning on sites (UK and overseas) with lots of rubble where the frame needs to be kept level. From memory we had planning frames made from hollow aluminium square-section tubes and we just drilled out a hole in each corner and fitted an ajustable leg. Alternatively place an appropriate sized rock under each corner.

I've seen lots of these sans legs over the years. Presumably they either dropped off or were thrown away.
