I'm always being told by my non archaeological friends that " It muct be such a facinating job!",that I'm usually forced into over emphasising how appallingly tedious certain aspects of the job actually are, possibly out of a slight sense of misplaced guilt that I might be having a good time in my career, when they aren't.
To be honest, that whole article sounds like it was written by someone who likes their world carefully ordered into stereotypes. Therefore any career involving science (or even more frighteningly,intelligence) has to be practised by people with no social skills and an anally retentive personality.
Good thing I'm not going to make a similar judgement based on the rather limited number of journalists i've met over the years, as it wouldn't be terribly flattering
