Are these the same a crotals - sort of pear shaped objects made of bronze, with a ring at the top. These were found in the Dowris Hoard, County Offaly, Ireland (Englandshire) and dated to the Late Bronze Age (about 800 - 600BC for Ireland). Meant to look like a bulls testicles (never been that close - ask Rebecca Loos) and have always been presumed to have a religious function related to fertility. Magic bulls are mentioned in later sources such as the Tain Bo Cualnge âso I think this is where this connection comes from. Statues of Artemis at Ephesus also have similar appendages â origin unknown.
