Just got some stuff about this with my magazine. I thought I might as well post a summary here.
They got 185 responses, statistically valid, including respondents from other branches of Prospect; EH, NT, Nat. Eng.
62% were male
28% of both sexes were 21 to 40
only 9% over 51
27% were not employed on any contractual basis
52% were 'permanent'
57.5% had less than ten years experience
15% had over 20 years
47.5% had postgrads
25% had less than 5 years experience
Mean salary: £18,787
Median salary: £18,012
Mode salary: £21,000
Only 4 people made over 30k
35% had no pension benefit
39% were entitled to over time
73% got sickpay
73% got annual leave of 20 to 25 days per annum
over three quarters thought their terms and conditions were fair within the industry
86% thought their t&c's were not comparable with other industries.
So there you go. All those salaries seem high to me, but I think thats just the respondents that they had. 21k as a mode seems like top end PO/bottom end PM.
On the upside: a 38% female profession! A better balance than most others I can think of.
Thoughts?
