The problem as I see it, is if the volunteer is not doing the work that a paid member of staff would otherwise be doing, what exactly are they doing?
Do you get them to do things like take out the other half of a pit that has been sectioned? Or re-trowel areas? Or just shadow people and learn?
I don't suppose anyone on here was/is involved in YAT's big pro/am dig in York?
