Would you go as far as to say it makes the basis of commercial archaeology economically redundant? The attrition on archaeology made by agricultural landownership is colossal compared to that by development. Why should anybody pay when others are being subsidised in the name of heritage and given maps showing them where to subsoil next. I think that in Lincolnshire the curators should pack up their bags (cash in their pensions) and every developer should laugh at their conditions as the pathetic little sop to nimbyism that they are.
