A good song actually about archaeology (with a little artistic licence) is 'court of king arthur' by Gruff Rhys of super furry animal fame - "excavation takes a long time, first you survey and dig down the line'
other stretched ones:

First cut is the deepest- cat Stevens : ok not always the case stratigraphically but you get the idea
Can you dig it- Mock Turtles
and one for all those quarry sites: Gravel Pit- Wu tang clan "check out my gravel pit, there's absolutely nothing in it" well somehong like that.
