I would like to see it be inclusive... and act as a conduit to join together... to increase and enhance not split and divide. We already know that PROSPECT membership in archaeology fell 17% so it seems obvious that ubless we all work together... communicate and come together, there is little hope of change... This would be no time for self interest, so... the bottom line is that next week I will hear whether we have the opportunity to come together in Nottingham, and discuss a strategy.. a national strategy, that incorporates and communicates, that moves it forward. Now I know I will be told by various people... oh... we are doing that. In which case... great... do tell us. AS this is key... PUBLIC COMMUNICATION... be visible, be dynamic - and use the medium that BAJR inhabits...
So although I am indeed self employed... it does not matter... I can act as a medium of communication... and for the Self Employed... the Sole Trader... well... perhaps soon the BAJR Federation will be a place for us. and other exciting ideas of mentoring and training. A voice for SEs? And with one great idea from a BAJRite... the BAJR Buddy scheme.
But to return to this.... This needs to be organic... and get across to the whole of UK Archaeology that union membership is essential... not for personal protection... but for general health of archaeology. For employee and employer.
I need people to discuss it... and to spread the word. Once that word is clear.
