I remember Lewis Binford from my early years as an undergrad. I often wondered if K. Flannery had him in mind as the old timer in http://plaza.ufl.edu/akathy/%281982%29%2...lltown.pdf

As you rightly said, like his ideas or not, they left a mark on archaoeology.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.
