Agreed, it's a pretty good response. But it also presents the recommendations of the Southport Group as offering a possible way to address the Councillor's concerns. I don't know him personally, but from his public statements, I can think of few things that would annoy him more than developers having to accommodate public access. Given that he doesn't like professional 'bunny huggers', I can't see him thinking that having volunteers on site as well is the solution, particularly as this is likely to be result in slower excavation, longer delays and more cost to developers. Personally, I don't necessarily think that any of these things is necessarily bad of itself, but they don't seem likely to hold much appeal for Councillor Melton!
