Listen to the advice of the old lags, do not get macho about shifting tons of dirt, your back and knees are going to have to last you a life time. Do those little tasks that are so helpful without having to be asked ( cleaning up around the site hut). Invest in Norwegian formula hand cream. Above all have fun this will be one of the best times of your life.
Well done
This is good advice for you, a few tips on the 'little tasks' mentioned:
1) Knowing what people's preference's are for their tea/coffee are at breaks.
2) Washing up the mugs after break.
3) Emptying someone's barrow for them as you go past them.
4) If you end up in shared self catering, suggest (for example) of putting up bags for recycling of rubbish.
5) Also, be willing to do other folks washing up, as it will be reciprocated.
