Actually I'm aware of a few pieces of work done over the years (by various archaeological contractors) which have resulted in pre-application cancellation or radical changes to developments - curators for good sound legal reasons never even hear of those. One particular piece of geophysics has caused much tongue-biting over the years, but the information is the bought and paid for property of the landowner and I don't particularly want to wind up in court being sued for disclosure....however, working for a local unit, the insider knowledge is still useful for informing work in adjacent areas (although tricky not to mention in resulting reports, I suspected all this on 'gut feeling' etc)
