Apologies to Digger.....needless schadenfreude..
Regarding legality...I agree with previous comments regarding H&S but can see a place for string vest if worn as substitute for Hi-Vis tabard i.e over the top of clothing rather than as [u]only</u> item of clothing.
We have a city triathon here over the weekend and I have seen some of the cycling trainists on the main roads wearing a very similar vest as a hi-vis garment.....and not to be forgotten is that hi-vis vests (and swimming shorts) are worn by swimmers and surfers here in Australia. So I would say that whilst not an essential item of safety clothing in the UK a hi-vis string vest might have its occassional uses.....Do I sound like a salesmen?
