The point made by several speakers at the recent Diggers Forum conference was that the IfA/BAJR minima set a 'base rate' for archaeological wages and benefits and of course the majority of employers pay above that level. The advertised rate for many positions is a 'salary range' and I think that applicants should treat it as such and try for the highest point within the advertised range. if as David suggests there is currently a shortage of available field staff, now would seem the time to press for enhancements to the base rates...... (Awaits the flak....)
