It is unethical to sell archives in Scotland because all objects without ownership belong to the crown. In England objects belong to the landowner unless other claims are made. A proof of ownership is the right to sell the objects. To give objects away could be viewed by the HMRC as a gift http://www.money.co.uk/guides/how-do-i-g...-taxed.htm.
