stop this right now.
Minitj... consider this a public and formal warning.
more outbursts such as this and further insults will result in a permanent ban.

I couldn't give a stuff about your military career, but I do care about insensitive, insulting posts (YOURS!). Also uninformed ones. It looks like this 'lady' had some very strong commitments to Iraqi culture past, present and future. The Muslim clerics state that she is married to an Iraqi, is a Muslim and has a long history in that country.

part of the intention of the petition is to show support, to show that people do care, and are thinking about her, and I dearly hope that on her release she will be able to get a copy of all the hundreds of names of people who showed an ounce of compassion, for both her and her driver as well as all the other people.
MintJ may feel justified in appearing from nowhere and starting by insulting people, but then Doing is always better than going... "ah... well... nothing can be done so I will do nothing.... thats not what BAJR is about... I am not so niave to think.. hey the petition will land at the doorstep of the kidnappers and they will go... oh... bloody hell now archaeolgists are ganging up against us... It shows support... it shows thoughtfulness, it shows compassion. Like thousands of German Muslims, like Palastinian leaders, like ordinary Iraqis, by ourselves we can do nothing, but we can say... we do not agree with this. It is our Human Right and Duty to voice our feelings, rather than remain silent, or use our voice to condemn those that dare to say NO.
I feel sickened :face-confused:

Take heart in the c580 signatures on the petition Mr Hosty. It may not make a difference, but while there's a may in that sentence its worth doing.

FYI
I have written to BAJRHost to apologise for parts of my post - thought not all. It is pointless to go into too much detail here it seems everyone, including me, has been somewhere, lost someone, has experience of, etc and we all have our different ideas, which is what makes life so interesting.
My main points are:
i do not wish Mrs Ossthoff to die - far from it, i just don't have any sympathy for her.
you should not assume someone posting on this forum does not know the background just because they make no mention of it.
some of you have been as insulting as you claim me to be.
suffice to say that i think the petition a pointless exercise and i have no sympathy with the woman, the majority of members of this forum will have different ideas - i will not try to persude you to change your minds and i apologise for my, shall we say, aggressive behaviour. I wish you luck and i'm glad that you are doing something that may have a chance, albeit a small one - and that you are willing to make so public a display of your support.
things should probably stop there!

minitj.
Thank you for apologising to Mr Hosty. As you say, things should probably stop there.
In my humble opinion, the politics/context or otherwise is irrelevent here. We live in a day where life is cheap to many.May Allah forgive us all.
Please, Minitj, "pointless exercise"..."no sympathy for the woman"...
Enough. This is not the time or, the place. Welcome to the forum but please don`t forget, we are a community.

opinions are always welcome, it is how you express them.
I am probably able to guess that you are early twenties, have done a few digs abroad and graduated from one of the unis... Oxford perhaps or Durham? It shows.
To think you know it all and to keep your peace when you think you should..please learn that differance
If you think the petition is pointless.. fair enough... over 600 people don't... there was no point to your post other than to call those that signed it retards. and asked people specifically not to sign it.
thanks for the apology... now try posting on one of the other subjects - and contribute rather than be smart.

Just for a fleeting moment there, I thought you meant that I was in my twenties
Oh, the days of standing without groaning, flatulence without undue care and attention.......oh the roaring twenties.
Minitj, if it helps, I have been extremely rude to subscribers on here in the past.To echo the words of Mr Hosty, it`s how we offer our views that matters.I had a big mouth.Nobody listened.

well, I can't stand without groaning at the moment, and I'm in my twenties (just about), can't imagine what I'll be like when I'm as old as you
And Minitj, I often feel very much like being incredibly rude to people on here, but I calm myself, take a deep breath and word things carefully, or keep my mouth shut...
++ i spend my days rummaging around in dead people ++
