so maybe they should not be included in these figures?
or the fact that they have not been surveyed you might find that there isnt 2829 anymore

2829 does seem to be a magic number...
PLEASE keep Dan Brown away from this...

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, Merlot in one hand, Cigar in the other; body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO, what a ride!

I do agree with Unit on this... the 2829 figure (apart from being a magic number) should be either removed - as it is not part of the survey and therefore skews the results.

I also agree (well spotted Unit!!!). The figure is at best meaningless and possibly misleading, and thus the total figure is as well.

thing is that every one of those 2829 2829 2829 2829 2829 2829 2829 2829

Does anybody have the last ifa year book, I seem to recall that once they used to publish a break down of the membership types. Are they still doing that
I found these numbers on the web but they are over ten years out

kev it looks like the wessex take over of cotswold will make the new charity with council pensions about 300 strong which wuold make it about 10% by personel which could be used as evidence that they are less than 25% market share. I dont think there are any savings on RAO fees for economy of scale.
No one got the year book then?

3404 so called commercial archaeologies and you have to imagine that they got to that figure counting temporary diggers
There are about 64 RAOs, some have more than one mifa- whats that about 100, then theres a few free lancers who like to be mifa, non exec directors lets say, generously, another hundred and they probably pseudo academics. That makes 200 out of 3404 or 6%. The remaining 94% think the ifa is a joke. Now of the 2829 how many mifa -under half? lets say 1000. 200:1000 us them.
Isnt the ifa a pointless organisation for commercial archaeology. The codes are patronising rubbish. This jobs survey is beyond a joke. How can any field archaeologist be in an association where the majority of the members have absolutely nothing to do with Contractual codes or standards for field work. It just wrong
