OK, apologies for the rant yesterday. However, it does throw up that age-old problem of sticking to the thread. Why did I [u]have</u> to read stuff from another 15 or so threads to discover that this self same topic was being discussed elsewhere? Stick to the subject. I enjoy reading everyone elses thoughts and occasionally contibuting my own, but I have got better things to do with my time (and I'm sure everyone else has) than wade through three versaions of 'should BAJR bother joining IFA' and God alone knows how many versions of 'pay and conditions are cr*p' and a'all consultants are b*st*rds'.

I voted YES
BECAUSE
I feel that you must try everything, including change from within, before you can really say well, the IFA are a shower of ?$:face-approve:"$%&?$%& $?"%?$:face-approve:"$% &*$:&*%&. If BAJR or rather, mr host, does join, and if, after a period of trial and error, then there has still been no change or signs of change, then one could, based on this rational approach, say that yes, the IFA are a shower of "?%!?$:face-approve::face-approve: "$%":face-approve:$% "$%:face-approve:245. I would suggest a period of one year?

Interestingly, there must be a lot of lurkers out there with opinions they don't want to share. Thirty-four votes had been cast when I last looked (including my own), but here, five contributors have made their own suggestions ammounting to three 'yesses' and two 'if you feel like its'. If you're watching and have an opinion, tell us. We're interested. Sitting at home clicking 'No' until you get bored or run out of Special Brew isn't particularlly constructive.

Okay then, I voted no because I'm a cinic and don't think it would make a blind bit of differance, and personnally would feel it a waste of >?100. Just think of all the special brew I could buy with that

Oh, and I only voted once.
On the other hand, Mr Hosty could make more of an impact than me, so maybe I voted wrong.

Just to clarify - of course I only voted once on the votey thing (it presumably won't let you vote twice anyway). I said I voted thrice on three different threads as a jokey sort of reference to the plethora of threads on the subject.

I am amazed at the 50 - 50 split.... I am also swayed by compelling arguements to myself joining (if I am accepted!) and seeing if the IFA is

or :face-confused: or even [xx(] and who knows... it could be
So ... I will talk to them about getting forms.... and then make it clear what I intend to do... I will not be a quiet member... I will push as far as is possible.. and then make a judgment based on experieince.

I vote "Yes" because I believe that if you do not make the attempt to make things better then that is tantamount to making them worse. A trial period of one year was mentioned earlier as being suitable. I do not believe this is long enough to actually see any major change. I would suggest a 5-year plan as more realistic, as well as being suitably Stalin-esque.

I voted 'yes' as I agree with the fighting from inside rather than moaning from the outside argument.
And as it would be rather hypocritical to say the above without joining myself, I'm working on the forms today, and plan to have my own application sent over by the end of the week. Anybody else equally inspired?

I voted yes. I came to the conclusion a while ago that working from the inside had a far greater chance of success than the moaning from the outside, so I joined earlier this year. I also joined Rescue - it's about the only organisation around which is solely concerned with arcghaeological concerns, and yet remains independant. A bargain for ?15 a year. I decided that it was about time I actually stood up and tried to do something about the things I saw wrong with the profession, rather than just whinge into my pint every friday.

You don't need to talk to them about getting forms, you just request them off the website! Of course you'll need to organise referees - you could name every BAJR Forumee........ come to think of it, maybe not...
Then your application will be checked at the next meeting of the committee thing.
Could take 6 months.
