A sad extra is that I have to leave the Buildings Archaeology group.. as you have to be in the IFA to be part of the Special Interest Group... unless an exemption can be made...
My great love is buildings archaeology

Hi David,
I'd like to echo everyone's sentiment here and say it will be a great loss to the IFA.
On the up side, as treasurer of the Illustration and Survey SIG I can tell you that you can still stay as a member of the Buildings group without being a member of the IFA - you will just need to pay ?10.

I also think that it's a shame that you didn't feel able to stay on council, but understand that there are circumstances when people feel that they can't (speaking as someone who was on council for a while as well!). At least you tried, rather than just moaning!
A shame you feel you have to stand down from the organisation as well, but if the reasons are personal, that has to be respected.

I for one welcome your return its like getting Hendrix to pack in his role as a tory MP after being brain washed and having been rescued by a bunch of BAJRites and taken to a deserted farm house and after days of strenous de-programming has come back to reality to support a rag tag bunch of rebels, fight the power![8D]
Close enough for a country job!

It's funny... I do feel back to my old self... ready for what lies ahead...
perhaps one day I will tell all... but until then ... BAJR is definately back.. and that's a promise .. !!
BAJRites have some real challanges ahead.. APPAG pay and conditions for one... the Benchmarking.. helping to move us forward... we can now work with people, before I was 'constrained'. I don't mean sniping from the sidelines.. (that benefits nobody) but being an independant voice for all.. from student to management.

recent contact has assured continued cooperation. Just so you know... it is not a case of complete removal of contact.
Now... Diggers... Supervisors.... POs... have you joined the Diggers Forum??

Now you have left the IFA how about inviting the IFA to join BAJR!!!
After going to the Swansea meeting as a potential - forms signed awaiting sending - member, I found it rude that non-members had red stickers on their name badge for marketing! Also there was discussion about the training of archaeology students, the IFA's stance seemed to be that they should be trained in mind that they might want to get out of archaeology! Surely if they take a degree in archaeology then they want to be an archaeologist, its their own fault!
Sorry for the unplanned rant.
Yes I agree the IFA have lost the person who seems to be doing anything worth while for the diggers.
The only problem I'm facing is that some archaeology units require IFA membership, how about setting up a BAJR membership where the member agrees to the IFA standards but without having to pay?

Thanks for that Gazz.. and for your kind words... there are others in the IFA and COuncil who will also work for the 'great red stickered' unwashed.. Though ... that does seem quite silly ... whose idea was that one !
So you rant on... !
Two things.. requirement to be an IFA memeber... as far as I know is illegal.. as the IFA are not yet an insitution that can be seen as a requirement.. you may as well demand that people be in the Tufty Club... people can prefer it.. but thats all. If any Units are requiring membership then that can be challanged .. (though of course I am not saying its a bad thing... and if the company is paying.. why not!)
This may come as a slight leak... but BAJR is looking at creating a system of membership for archaeolgoists, that equates skills and verified competance from peer review and continual assesment.. the Skills Passport.. well... I offered the idea.. but hey... I may as well go for it myself. ( Have you been reading my mind! ) There would be some cost though, to cover postage, admin etc... but I am sure I could start off for a fiver!
