Forgot to post this last week, we've just given away another free trowel provided by Past Horizons for the 1000th person to join ArchPoints on Facebook. Thanks to everyone at BAJR forums and Past Horizons for your support.

The first ArchPoints on Facebook is now full, having the maximum 5000 friends. For anyone who still wants to add us we have created ArchPoint2, simply search for Arch Pointii on Facebook, e-mail address

Archpoints Wrote:Thanks to all at BAJR for signing up. Here is a free sample of ArchPoints from Elfin Safety:
Chestnuts are edible. Horse chestnuts (conkers) are not. To roast chestnuts cut a cross through the outer shell on the flat side. Spread a single layer on a baking tray and cook 20-30mins in the centre of an oven on Gas6/200C/400F. When done shells open up and the nut feels soft, remove shells. Can also be done over an open fire using a long-handled perforated frying pan with large perforations.
Search for Arch Points. Or search by e-mail- archpoints@googlemail.com

I am either getting cynical or paranoid in my old age but with advice like that you managed to get 5000 followers on Facebook? Really? Is it by giving away trowels? It all sounds a bit odd, and that piece of 'advice' sounds strangely familiar...

Instead of giving it large on an internet forum why not actually try ArchPoints, you will find helpful tips on topics such as the right way to hold a mattock, basic site Health and Safety. More than 5000 Facebook followers do not come from offering free trowels, as none of the winners actually claimed their free trowel, presumably they already had trowels.
The free trowels and support from Past Horizons and BAJR were a genuine gesture, please do not insinuate there was any ulterior motive behind it.

Red Earth - that was not a useful post. Somebody does something and gets followers and fans... good for them, and if the advice sounds familiar, then perhaps it is because it is good advice. As to trowel give away, as Archpoints said, no trowels actually ended up given away - though they were there to be sent. Was a bit of fun.
I don't see what is odd about anything. but then maybe I am a bit odd

Fair enough, I apologise profusely, but I won't be befriending ArchPoints on Facebook. That's perhaps what concerned me about it - the page having been set up as a 'person' means that ArchPoints now has access to the personal pages of 5000+ 'friends'. At least as I understand it. Had it been set up as a group, that was 'liked' I might have been more interested.

At the time ArchPoints was set up the options for groups and pages on Facebook were nowhere near as well-developed as they are now. The choice of profile adopted was to allow us to see how many people were using and interacting with the page, and also to avoid a then-recent problem where large amounts of original text from BAJR and several other websites had been plagiarised by a certain company. ArchPoints does not have access to in excess of 5000+ profiles, it only has the access that each individual friend grants them via their custom privacy settings.
