I'll take you out on the next rally and you can dig my holes for me.
I think this would be a good experience and good introduction to the world of metal detecting.
We'll come to some gentleman's agreement where you get to keep all the penicillin tubes, pull tabs etc and I can claim the treasure. Because you are still an archaeologist you wont be able to stake any claim. As soon as you ready to change colours we can discuss the sharing agreement again.
If we could maybe come to some arrangement where we can dig the odd SAM site with your "archaeological" credentials I think we could be onto a winner.

Well I was thinking but not sure that Neolithic and earlier SAMs should be alright as they are supposed to be pre metal age then the schedule is not there to protecting metal objects?..I dont know what all the recent fuss was about...
and I was also dreaming about putting a gold detector in the tip of a subsoiler and offering to do the ripping for the farmers as they are allowed to go over their SAMs under class fives -see the COSMIC report we should be able to get down to 1 metre. We could even make out that it was a precautionary device..nudge nudge

Hmm... you could be onto something here... though I would take it further and strap onto alternate tines of the subsoiler a detectorist, finds specialist, geo-archaeologist and a general specialist - while drawn through the soil (and of course provided with goggles and helmets, they could each provide first hand data on sub surface conditions.

I am afraid that this forum thread is for detectorists only. Those archae types will have to wait, to get at those SAMs, until the Promised Time when sonic screwdrivers are sufficiently developed to point out that preservation in situ is the very bedrock of a political ideology that considers the individual subordinate to the interests of the state.
