As far as I am aware, if you want to carry out any intrusive operation on a SAM, then you need to apply for Scheduled Monument Consent - forms used to be available on the DCMS website I believe.
It is a legal requirement for any archaeologist working on a SAM to comply with the conditions on their SMC. Normally these include a requirement to publish.

Quote:quote:What I was wondering was what was the procedure for gaining access to a Scheduled Ancient Monument to undertake an Archaeological Evaluation. Do you need a licence, what does it look like, who decides and what archaeologically is produced as a result of the evaluation/excavation? i.e. is there an archive and where will it be held.
You can also ask is it not beholden on an archaeologist working for an IFA RAO (and educational trust-charity) on any scheduled monument let alone 60 to produce an archive for the public-?Any answers
