Seeing as this thread has been hijacked by Land Rovers, here's a video of Gary's Archaeological Support Unit earning its keep at a metal detecting rally (the action starts at 20 seconds).

It's not my video, but I was there at the time and well remember how bad the mud was. One caravan needed two 4x4s and a car, all roped in line astern, to get it off the site.
"Hidden wisdom and buried treasure, what use is there in either?" (Ecclesiasticus ch20 v30)
I hadn't seen that before.
The guy had never been so fast in reverse :-)
The best ones were the old people who didn't know which way their steering wheels were facing. I never did anything on that rally... just pull out cars and caravans day and night.

What idiot took a Land Rover onto Stanage Edge ........outrageous !!!!!!
Monty, that would be me and my other half (the one driving) who took it down Stanage. Thats was our Disco's first trip out. There was also 110 and a 90 who came down there. It was a fantastic weekend
Pulling caravans around is great fun, this is our annual 4x4 club caravan trial (page 2 onwards)

OOooooh, is this an opportunity for me to resurrect my story of how I (with the aid of my landy) towed a Jag around Northampton's ringroad in the snow?!?! [8D] (I didn't sing "you're getting towed by a girl" to myself, honest).
On topic, though, would the farmers' tan add or deduct points? Is looking like you have a fake head more acceptable than it would be on Miss World, for example? :face-huh: It stood out a little at my friend's wedding reception anyhoo.

I fear that the competition has its tongue wedged firmly in the cheek (face cheek that is!!)
So farmers tans may be an asset.
Lets get them team shots in... and if any BAJR team wins.. I will add an extra prize of a pkt of quality chocolate brownies (5 to a pack, no sharing) :face-approve:

Pippyn !!! Stanage Edge is not a highway ..... this is sensitive moorland environment of the eastern Peak, a place of nature... for walking and climbing or just being there .... NOT the place to drive any vehicle...you should know better !!!!!

This thread seems to have morphed into the sexiest Landrover thread. Thank God it's moved away from its original premise!!
Monty, well said about Stanage Edge.

"Real Archaeologists drive Series Landrovers (they can't afford shiny new lumps of metal)"
And in the top pic, government surplus air portable ones!
Must try and find a pic of the old ex Somerset Fire Service one we used on the Somerset Levels - often referred to as the Red Peril!!
