One for the council folk!
Some 200 words and phrases have been banned from use in local government because, "unless information is given to people to explain what help they can get during a recession, then it could lead to more people ending up homeless or bankrupt," according to the Local Government Association (LGA).
Among words and phrases now banned are:
Cascading
Menu of choices
Transformational
Client
Stakeholder engagement and Stakeholders
Slippage
Benchmarking
Best practice
See, this whole bad economy thing? It was just a little misunderstanding.

There are a few words and phrases I would add to the banned list, as they make me cringe every time i hear them....
'draw down'and 'touch base' are two of my least favourite.

You're not allowed to say 'client'??? what else are you meant to call the person on whose behalf the work is carried out.
My instinctive feeling is this is so they can pay management consultants to come up with new buzz words.

Is 'touch base' the same as 'touch cloth'?

To quote my usual response on this matter. The only stakeholder I want to see is buffy the vampire slayer.

I will personally strangle anyone who uses the phrase 'going forward' when they mean 'in the future' or 'from now'.

I see that 'community engagement' and 'partnerships' are also banned words. That makes working in
partnership with voluntary groups on
community heritage
engagement programmes a little difficult.

Can archaeologists therefore use 'going backward' to mean 'in the past'?

Am trying to think what to replace 'community engagement' with in the project design i am currently drafting....
... 'to encourage local potentially non-professional persons in a unification exercise focussed on past events and the relevance they can provide to current societies'..... errrr......
