Forgive me if this seems a tad ungrateful in the current economic climate but having seen the advert for excavation assistants in West Cornwall I can't help feeling that advertising for a job on an ongoing excavatation that will run 'until the week commencing 18/05/09' is a little out of order.
Thats essentially a weeks work.
Its not a job but an extended holiday with conditions attached. I know times are hard but are we back to the times of hitching around the country with a tent to work as archaeologists.

Rant allowed... but for some it will be a welcome bit of cash... and for others it may be just that.. a paid holiday.
However, it also means you are 'known' by the Cornwall group... and so are likely to be asked again... so it is a foot in a door.

Point taken, a nice week if you have the mobility and means to be there.
But just remember... incomers are still incomers after 20 years.
Happy hunting for any who apply

MMM:face-huh: Should I sign off the dole for a weeks work and then wait another 3 until I can claim again?
What do you mean lost on price again!

There's also the point that it may lead onto work on other projects. I may not head down from Yorkshire to Cornwall for it but if I lived in the southwest it would be worth looking into.

I really dont see what wrong with this ad. An archaeological company needs some labour for a short period of time so they advertise for some people. They are willing to pay the BAJR rate etc. Good.
It is not going to suit everybody but it is work none the less.

Already there gonetopot. The last two jobs I've done I've had to doss in a tent. Such is progress, eh?
