A metal detector is obviously an essential tool for bird-watching!

A month in the nick obviously did not deter him. If he thought he might have got more, he might have revealed the names of his accomplices. Confiscating his metal detector must have cost him few bob. Must worry all his nighthawk mates in South Shields.

Sadly-mr metal detector in Leicester appealed against his sentence and walked away.......does`nt send out the sort of message required really does it? He just ended up with a fine. Oh well-he`ll pay that off after one night out with his detector and no doubt nice mr E-Bay will sell his stolen goods as usual..........

A very sad outcome indeed. He claimed he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Read it from Mr Innocent

Much worse than that, about the same time as his appeal some prat(s) from Manchester posted an eBay 'notice' comprising a map of the site and refered to Mr T. Apparently a revenge act by his nighthawking buddies. Ebay eventually removed the notice.

Good grief, I despair. According to the original news report linked in the top of this thread, the guy had a detector and a spade with him and was lurking around at night! Now, I don't like to jump to conclusions and would wish to consider all possibilities, but.........

As one who detects I can't agree with you more Troll. He should have got longer and a larger fine. The fact that he still had to pay ?250 says he was guilty of thieving with a detector. His detector was confiscated so that will add to the bill alongside the fine. E-Bay is another issue altogether and to be honest I would prefer any find sold on E-Bay would be accompanied by a certificate showing that it at least was recorded by PAS. There is no room in this world for thieves no matter what discipline they might come from, I'm sure you'll all agree.
Evil to him who thinks evil.
