And don't bang on and on and on about archaeology. It doesn't make you look any cleverer.

54. Don`t sharpen both ends of your pencil-you may look like chippy mint but you will, stab yourself in the chops eventually.
55. Buy lots of crappy cheap sunglasses in varying lens colours-may look a prat but sneaky contexts show up really well.
56. Learn how to do a Harris matrix.

And when all else fails give it up as a profession and become an MP with little or nothing to do with great pay and pension. You can then use all that spare time to dig for free!

Hi Pete! Can`t give it up as a profession cos I`m still looking for someone to make it one
I spent time excavating underground tombs in the near east recently and got very ill. Therefore, I could`nt possibly become an M.P As I already know that crawling on my belly through the darkest places while being eaten by parasites would make me very sick, very quickly![:p]

To site and project managers in particular: the correct number of hand tools - shovels, mattocks, barrows etc - for any given site, is one more.
Similarly, the correct duration od lunch and tea breaks is another five minutes.
If you intend to sit at any stage during the day, consider carefully which pocket to put your trowel in and which way round it goes.

60. Remember -as every good supervisor knows- Trowels are not for digging they're for pointing, hence the name...

61 If you intend to remain a field archaeologist, try to leave the U.K and work somewhere with sunshine and sexy archaeology regularly.
