Just a heads up that BAJR has brought together (and hand picked!!!) 556 courses and practical workshops, MAs to MLitt - Modules to Certificates. A fully searchable database of 113 institutions that leads you to courses in Maritime Archaeology or Building Conservation, from pure Archaeology to Heritage Studies in Education.

This should turn into a cracking recourse, that will self enhance. Spread the word... check your educational institution and see if I have it right... add a course or tell me where I got it wrong. If you are in a University or College, please let the staff know about HERA-Higher Education Resource in Archaeology

The resourse allows you to search by Course, institution, by subject or by keyword, once there the detail page lets you know about what the course is, what you need and a direct link to both the Institutions Contact details as well as a link to the full course specific webpage... then print it out!

Thank you very much, it?s good for someone like my who?s thinking about comming and studing in Britain. I?ll put a link up in the Univerisity of Iceland Arcaeological students union (there?s a moutfull), or Kuml. You would be surprised to know how many of them are thinking about comming over there to study.

Seems like the launch has gone well... big response of happy people including several unis and colleges... some correcting minor details some asking to be included...

HERA is just another example of what can be done if you put your mind to something.... hint hint to other organisations!

Can anybody explain the degrees for me? I know what is B.A., M.A., Ph.D.... but there are more, and I am not sure when a student becomes graduate, undergraduate or postgraduate. Quite complicated...

BA and BSc are first degrees. You are an undergraduate when you are studying for them. When you get your degree you graduate (verb), and are a graduate (noun). There is no difference between BA and BSc, they reflect the traditional seperation of arts and scsience subjects. Most archaeology degreees are BA, a few unis offer BSc (eg Bradford) for more practical/science based courses.

A Masters is an MA or MSc. This is a second degree you can do after your BA or BSc. When you study for this you are a post-graduate student.

PhD comes next, and you get to call yourself Doctor when you get it.

I'll let someone else explain about MPhil. and all the other oddsods....
