The Earth System Science Research Centre, Mainz, invites applications for a post-doctoral position in Archaeological Geophysical Prospection
available immediately. The position is initially for two years but may be extended following positive evaluation. A candidate with suitable qualifications and aptitudes may be given the option to be employed as a Junior Professor (3+2 years).
The Earth System Science Research Centre was newly established in 2008 to integrate the Earth System Science Research activities of the University of Mainz, the Max-Planck Institute for Chemistry, the Roman-Germanic Museum and the Mainz Technical College (http://www.geocycles.de).
The ideal candidate should have his/her main research interests in the application of geophysical methods (magnetic, electric, radar) to the investigation and discovery of archaeological remains and in the digital processing of geophysical data. He/she may be either an archaeologist with practical experience in geophysical prospection or a geophysicist with practical experience in archaeology. Close cooperation with the archaeological research actvities of the centre is essential.
