Dear Digger, you may be taking this too literally. This is clearly a reference to the female form and the underlying inscription DFDS puts one in mind of the Germanic legions ( DESCIMUS (F)ELICITUS DUCVM SER). The Bolivian connection is intriguing, a lost Roman Legion? so there we have it, a female Gladiator travelling with a lost Roman Legion; suitable for a channel four twelve part series.

This shorthand is typical of a badly wounded gladiator, typing on stumps, so I'd put her somewhere in her late 20s.

Ahhh. Thanks Pete and Alfie! This definately explains the previous message refering to double D's! Obviously not an Amazonian Import (otherwise it would have been just a single D). But then we do have the South American connection with the river. So is that a extremely bad female gladiator stollen from her tribe at a tender age, escapes with loyal Roman legion fan club, but unfortunately books a ticket home via a not to reputable travel agency????
