Just a quickie relating to recent developments where some are forced to work wearing "safety" glasses. A swift cast over the relevent documentation supplied with them makes it clear that:
1. When scratched-they MUST be replaced and,
2. Those of you who wear prescription glasses should under no circumstances wear safety glasses OVER your prescription glasses.Your "safety" glasses must therefore be prescription standard or not at all.
Therefore, when scratched, replace them regularly and-insist upon prescription standard "safety" glasses.

Morning sire.Not very clear lately am I? May have to take Burch`s advice.Absolutely right- if you wear prescription glasses-don`t wear "safety" glasses over the top of them.If "safety" glasses are a requirement then they must be prescription and supplied PRIOR to setting foot on site.

There are a wide variety of safety glasses available for different purposes, and some of them are specifically designed for wearing over prescription glasses. Other designs will carry the warning quoted by Troll - but not these ones.

Compulsory wearing of safety eyewear on site is usually a knee-jerk reaction by a principal contractor following a couple of instances of some non-archaeologists getting dust in their etes or similar.
Depending on the nature and quality of eyewear provided, it can actually increase the potential for accidents rather than decrease it.
If you wear presecription glasses then you really must have protective eyewear that is designed to be work over these, otherwise the eyewear creates problems with focusing etc. and with edge vision and spatial awareness.
If you are forced by an employees to wear protective eyewear, insist on some really funky mirror-style ski-goggle ones.

I've never been made to wear safety glasses, but I am wondering what happens if, like me, you have particularly bad eyesight. I doubt safety glasses are available for those who need -12 diopters! I don't wear contact lenses to work as getting muck in my eyes creates all sorts of problems...

My wife (a non-archaeologist) has to wear safety glasses over her prescription glasses every day. Her eyesight is very poor (literally can't see past her elbow, and that looks a very odd shape), so if she can get suitable safety glasses so can anyone.
