Quote:quote:Is it possible for someone to come to Cambridge and give a talk on âlife after university in archaeologyâ. Many undergraduates are keen to be practicing archaeologists, but feel lost at where to start, and a talk about the opportunities after completing a degree would be very helpful. If anyone could help we would be extremely grateful.
I know Troll has done one in London ... (er... how did that go, or is it still to happen?) So come on.... whos got the time - cos I ain't got the money

I would be happy to be considered as I live relatively close to Cambridge and providing that it doesn't have to happen before January 22nd. If interested party want to contact me via e-mail at
kevinwool@yahoo.com, we can work up a spec for said talk.

Brilliant opportunity no less! Go for it Mr Wooldridge! Mr Hosty- am still waiting for date confirmation for the London one, will keep you informed. Tiz a common complaint amongst undergrads: "what do I do now?" or "who?". In my uni, we had a director of a local field unit come in and give us a natter on the job. This was well-received but apparently quite a rare thing.Should be more integration between seats of learning and us orrible lot anyhow! Mr Hosty-should we not consider this as a scheme of sorts that we could offer to uni`s as a component of "professional studies" or similar?

fabadoozeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I think you may be right there Troll mate... If we can work up a semi-standard BAJR indoctrination ...er.... component then this can be used across the Unis and Colleges.
This would explain the world out there... what to do, BAJR, the IFA, PROSPECT, Digger Forum, employment dos and don'ts, etc etc...
Kevin....you starrr. I will pass the info to you that I sent to Troll.... you add a liberal dose of yours -
Remember we are BAJR... but are free to put your personality into it (if you know what I mean)

I would be happy to be considered for stuff like this in future, for venues in the north of England.
I would hope that whoever gives the talk would try to provide an objective and factual description of the types of career that are open to archaeology graduates, and how to get into them.
I would be concerned if the talk was given in a way that expressed any individual's strong views about the ethics and competence of people in certain branches of the profession, particularly if those views are expressed in terms of sweeping generalisations - something not uncommon amongst BAJR-ites.
That approach is fine if your objective is to campaign on issues that you feel strongly about - but I don't think it is appropriate in this kind of educational/careers advice role.

I think this is why it must (in a way) represent the general views of BAJR, where the personality of the person is allowed to be represented, as long as the views expressed are not too at odds with those of BAJR.
And 1 man... you are hired as well!
